“We try to make these classes as unique as possible, nothing in this industry should be the same every time, if you go to a gym you want variety and you want to leave challenged, that is our fitness mission,” explains Bain.
An instructor and co-owner of Fab Method Pilates, Bain loves fitness. She has always been drawn to sports and grew up running for school.
Upon graduation she and her friend and now co-owner of Fab Method, had the entrepreneurial dream of starting up their own business and opening their own studio specifically geared towards their twist on the classical Pilates workout.
Their twist was innovative and different and is what makes Fab such a unique workout!
Student, Anna Foley commented, “This is my first time and I LOVED it. I felt my muscles getting stronger and this is only after one time.”
So what is it that makes this workout so unique and challenging?
Bain credits this to their patented reformers.
“We specifically designed our reformers to be the best in the industry,” she explains. “We wanted a machine that would be easily incorporated in our high paced workouts.”
Their machines are different than what you would find at other studios. Their body board freely floats from front to back and the springs are all located on the front making the machine easy to adjust.
There is also a band at the back that can be used in class as a bungee to work your glut muscles and leg muscles.
Another key aspect Bain credits Fab’s success to is “our instructors our amazing, they all have fitness backgrounds and this helps them know what to incorporate in their workouts that will challenge everyone. Their passion for Pilates is apparent.”
Many people who enter into the fitness industry almost always have a connection or tie to fitness. Many are ex sports players, fitness junkies, etc. This makes the industry in itself one that holds an important role in the community it serves but also in the people that are in change of the classes. Gyms, etc.
Without the people the exercise would not be the same.
The fitness industry is one that is extremely popular and every growing. Current trends show that over the past years memberships in gyms have steadily increased and the general desire for individuals to try unique workouts like Pilates is growing. The projected job growth in the next 10 years is 13% for all fitness trainers.
That being said the pay scale for a Pilates instructor is not enough to sustain someone alone. Many make a mear $25 an hour, and most of the instructors also have another fulltime job.
Bain said that “The biggest challenge for me as an instructor was trusting myself. I never needed to be the best on the field or the star player but I was driven by doing my best and contributing to the team so when I started instructing and was mic’d up, hearing my voice was a little scary. Now its just second nature and I would feel like something was missing if I was not instructing.”
The Fab method team provides just the right balance of support, push, and confidence that allows each of the hourly long workouts to be challenging and rewarding.
“I would never want to be in this industry if I didn’t have a passion to help people get fit and feel good about themselves” Bain confides.
The positive mindset one gains from endorphin release during workouts is a real benefit to exercise. Pilates, while less cardio vascular in practice uses repetitive motions and weighted springs to mimic a similar endorphin release.
When asked about how Bain found her current career as a Pilates instructor she said, “I broke into the Pilates field over 10 years ago, I have been teaching for all 10 years and I love every day of it. I think of the day to day life of a fitness instructor and I think the most important skill to doing what I do, is having flexibility in the way I teach. Not every day is the same and your mindset will be different but when you come to help others in the studio you have to put all that aside and focus on the workout. Its therapeutic.”
Therapeutic is exactly the word, as a client of Fab Method, that comes to mind when I attend my daily class. It’s a safe space for me to challenge myself and, to, release any pent up stress through physical activity.
Client Deniz Ozkan credited her love to The Fab Method saying, “I see the instructors put in effort to challenge me and that makes me want to challenge myself in return. It’s great and that is why I keep coming back!”
“Out of college I had little to no idea of what career I wanted to pursue.” Bain admits. I truly felt lost until I had this crazy idea to tech fitness. It took a lot of risk but I look back now and am so thankful I decided to leverage that risk.”
When asked what a typical day entailed for Bain, she said she normally “teaches upwards of 3 classes, so I have to not only be in my best physical shape but I also have to provide a professional and safe space for each of those classes.”
When asked what requirements she had to check off to be an instructor Bain said that “to be an instructor you have to go through a certification which can be completed in less than a year it does require money but its worth it in the long run.”
All in all Bain said that “the most rewarding thing for me is seeing the progress of each of my students.”
It’s great to see exposure about female business owners. It’s impressive that Kadi Bain has been able to find success in the fitness industry.
