Vice President Milena Rogers took over going through the various logistics that were already in line. Women in Finance is a panel that will be hosted next Wednesday, Feb. 26 in the Reiman Theater in Margery Reed Hall. This panel will consist of women from PNC, PBS Wealth management, Carden capital, and Public Trust Advisors discussing their experiences and tips for coming up in the finance world.
“The caliber of these people coming is pretty big,” expressed Rogers
Women in Finance will be taking place from 6 to 8 p.m. and light snacks will be provided. Students of all genders and majors are encouraged to attend and learn from these inspirational women.
The other focus of the evening revolved around the third annual Women of Wisdom event taking place on May 14, 2020 in Joy Burns Arena on campus. An event consisting of a panel of renowned experts, networking with incredible companies, and great food. President Martinez stressed the history of Women of Wisdom as one of the premier events of WiB and really one of their biggest events annually.
“There will be five panelists at the front, and every other table will have a different theme. Gigsmart will be at the start-up / tech table, Northwestern Mutual will respresent banking, Deloit accounting is also expected. After the panelists, there will be a buffet and each panelist will join a table as a further opportunity to network,” explained Martinez, describing all that is Women of Wisdom.
“It’s an awesome event and people consistently enjoy it,” said Martinez, hyping up her board members.
“WiB was founded in by two business majors in 2017, and they built it from the ground up. Lexi [Girard] [one of the founders] is a senior this year, so this is her last year. They started out with no funding and no membership and have kinda built it up,” explained Martinez when asked about the history of Women in Business.
“The club has always aimed to prioritize socializing and education simultaneously,” said Martinez.
This is demonstrated through one of their most popular and repeat events, TedTalks and pizza.
However, WiB is not satisfied with only one or two events per quarter, they want to become a dominant club empowering women across campus and Denver. In May, in support of Sexual Assault Awareness Month (SAAM), Women in Business will be hosting a 5K to raise awareness and funds for sexual assault survivors. There will also be plenty of interview workshops and various panels in the coming quarters. There are many different ways to become involved with WiB or simply benefit from the educational events they host. Women in Business is always welcoming new members and consistently meets in the Daniel’s College of Business room 110 every Wednesday from 6 to 8 p.m. If you’re a women looking to advance her career or business or just want to learn realistic job skills and meet new people, WIB is here to be that source for you. Membership is free and more information can be found on their Facebook site.
I really enjoyed reading this article and seeing that WiB is working to make real change on our campus and in the Denver Area. The article was very informative—I learned a lot about the club and the panel event.
