The air in the space was charged. Men, women, and children held blue and white banners and paraded them above their heads. It appeared that all attendees were eager to have him take center stage.
This eagerness seemed even more so due to Sanders’s recent victory in New Hampshire’s primary election. It was clear that people in the crowd were there to listen and ready to hear what he had to say.
After what seemed like a while, and after introductory speakers made their cases for Sanders, he finally came out to talk and the crowd got electric.
Loud cheers echoed throughout the center and Bernie chants escaped the mouths of the onlookers almost every second.
Attendee and Sanders supporter, Mike Dunell from Littleton CO shared, “I have never felt so alive and a part of a movement so great. This is going to be our next president and that’s why I am here today in support!”
Bernie took the stage amongst cheers and with a large sense of confidence began, “Colorado! Thank you. Don’t tell anyone but I think we are going to win here in Colorado, wow what a turn out.”
His confidence in winning was a theme throughout his speech as he went into his agenda like healthcare, taxes, Medicaid, Medicare and social security with an emphasis on helping the working class.
He stated, “Democracy to me means one person, one vote. Not Bloomberg or anyone else spending 100s of millions of dollars trying to buy an election.”
He stressed that his campaign was about the people and not about “Bernie but about us, not me, that we are all in this together.”
His familial reference came across as genuine and this was felt in the crowd’s positive reactions.
Another change Bernie topic during his speech was “addressing the power of the corporate elite.”
This notion was followed by the idea that his campaign is bigger than beating his opponent Donald Trump, but that it is about taking on corruption seen in industries like insurance, drug companies, fossil fuel, the military-industrial complex, and the entire 1 percent.
Throughout his speech, the crowd praised and cheered Bernie. People were euphoric and the air was exciting. Smiles plastered the faces of the voters in the crowd and as his speech wrapped up cheers of “Bernie” could be heard in the parking lots across the street from the venue by the numerous men, women, and children who attended the event in the mile-high state.
