Chastens background is anything but typical. His story is one of perseverance and fighting against sterotypes. Chasten’s life story includes tales of bulling, estrangment, homelesess, and sexual assult. Chasten not only stands out amoung spouses because of his sexual orientation but he isn’t even 30 years old.
This unique background draws serious interest and praise from voters who are intrigued by a gay man running for office. Chasten hopes to shed some light today on what values Pete will bring into the Oval office if elected President.
In the classroom, anticipation is growing while Chasten strolls in running almost 15 mins late. He quickly changes the mood with the recent win in Iowa, growing a small chant in the crowd with the huge win. This man knows how to win over a crowd.
Chasten sheds light on his background and his profession as a teacher. Chasten understands how teachers are underappreciated in this nation. Teachers our constantly put in lose/lose situations in regards to gun control and mental health.
“We need to give a teachers in the country a voice, these teachers are the ones that see and work with these kids everyday and our the ones that can make a difference. Teachers have no where to send kids who are struggling with their mental health.”
Chasten builds off the last point about giving the voiceless a voice by talking about how values have been put on the backburner by the current administration.
“Think about kindness being just as important as money.” He then had a code to live by according to Pete. “Don’t talk at voters, talk with voters.”
He explained that both he and Pete are come from middle class families and have worked hard to get where they are. He continued against Trump by saying “How people are treated is important to Pete. Pete and I are disheartened by people in power spreading lies and hate.”
Buttigieg then answered a slew of questions from people in the crowd. He was able to boil a lot of the main issues in the trump admisistration to not having true empathy to middle class working Americans.
“Pete has a different view on because he has a mayors view. He has worked directly with hard working Americans. He wasn’t hiding in his office and signing bills. He was talking and working with communities and he wants to bring that same mindset into the Oval office.”
Chasten finished with, “Together we will rise and defeat the worst President in United States history.” The crowd exploded with applause.
