The eager crowd waited in the large convention center for the presidential candidate sporting their Bernie Sanders merch and conversing excitedly with each other. The turnout was quite diverse in age and race but everyone had the same mindset– get Sanders in office.
To prepare the crowd, Sanders invited many speakers including Rep. Emily Sirota, Dr. Radhika Nath, and former state Rep. Joe Salazar. Each excited the crowd by repeating and reinforcing Sanders’ ideas
Once Sanders stepped on stage with his wife, the crowd roared.
“Our campaign is about a few fundamental issues, and at the list is the need to defeat Donald Trump, the most dangerous president,” Sanders started with. The crowd thundered in response.
Sanders continued to express his campaign ideas starting with helping the working class, and even taking a dig at Trump for not following through with his promises to the working class. The crowd booed in response.
Sanders is known for wanted to be a voice for the middle and lower classes. He wants to achieve this by taxing extreme wealth, increasing the number of sustainable jobs, and making healthcare and education universal so everyone is on the same playing field.
“This is a campaign of the working class, by the working class, and for the working class,”
Sanders addressed the crowd as he scanned the room, making everyone feel noticed and included.
The audience was entranced by Sander’s stage presence with his strong voice that boomed throughout the convention hall. The bright faces of the crowd shined back at the presidential candidate, eyes filled with hope for the future of the country.
As the crowd chanted “Bernie!”, he turns to the crowd and makes a point to tell everyone that his campaign is about everyone, not just him.
Sander’s also encouraged the crowd by telling them that they are the change, not Corporate America. He explained how he wants to take down big business like Wall Street, big drug companies, and the fossil fuel industry.
“It is taking on the entire one percent, the corporate establishment, the political establishment, and telling them, this country belongs to all of us,” Sanders stated.
Sanders then continued to hype up the crowd and got them excited about his ideas to better America.
“Together we’re gonna make a government and an economy that works for all of us, not just the one percent,” Sanders expressed.
